I'm thrilled to welcome you to Northern Voices (NV), your gateway to the vibrant world of podcasting and media in Canada, with a special focus on Black voices. Here, you'll discover, learn from, and help amplify the incredible stories, perspectives, and talents echoing from the Great Black North.

Unveiling Black Canadian Podcasters, New and Traditional Media

In this space, we'll get into a treasure trove of voices reflecting the unique experiences of Black Canadians. Unlike our pod cousins in the US, according to 2021 statistics, 1.5 million people in Canada reported being Black. I’m sure MANY are content creators, let alone podcasters. This section of the newsletter spotlights podcast creators, YouTubers (because they podcast too!), and professionals who bring forth insightful narratives, thought-provoking discussions, and captivating stories, not only from their mics but also within the media industry. Expect stories mostly in English and, at times, in French, en Français!😊

What to expect in the Northern Voices newsletter!
On a bi-weekly basis (sometimes weekly, depending on availability), anticipate a new issue. Get ready to learn, and discover exciting content and updates, such as:

• Black Canadian podcasts you need to know, to add to your podcast playlist.

• A spotlight on Black podcasters, new media and media personalities.

• New and traditional media news you should be aware of what’s happening in Canada or expats who are making a difference with their content abroad.

• Opportunities for your podcast: Grants, Awards, Speaking engagements, etc.

• Brands you need to know that are helpful in your podcast creation journey.

• Updates on the latest episodes from the Black Canadian Creators Podcast.

• Valuable tips I come across on IG, FB, TW, TT, Threads, or X, which can be helpful for Black podcasters or media enthusiasts.

I'm a big believer in the power of knowledge-sharing. Gain insights from seasoned podcasters and media personalities who've mastered their craft and made their mark in the industry. Get to know up-and-coming podcasters breaking into the podosphere, along with some podcast reviews by episode(s) or from prominent Black media pros. Discover their creative processes, tips for engaging storytelling, and the secrets behind building a dedicated audience.

Amplifying New. Up and Coming and Seasoned Voices

I'm inviting you to join us in amplifying the diverse fabric of voices that often go unheard in this country or to be quite direct, the same old 10 to 20 we always see, and hear.
