Spotify’s NextGen Announces Winners & Boosts Podcast Culture at Spelman College
In a stride towards championing diversity and inclusion in the audio industry, Spotify has expanded its groundbreaking NextGen program to Spelman College in Atlanta.
This collaboration signifies Spelman's distinction as the first Historically Black College and University (HBCU) to join hands with Spotify in this progressive venture, positioning it alongside esteemed institutions like the University of Southern California, the University of Pennsylvania, and New York University.

An Emphasis on HBCUs: Rooted in Spotify’s Creator Equity Fund (CEF), this initiative underlines the company's unwavering commitment to amplify creators who have been traditionally overlooked in the podcast domain.
The Spotify NextGen Scholarship: Unveiled during the inaugural NextGen Creator Day in 2022 at Spelman, this scholarship is set to financially bolster five first-year Spelman students each with $10,000 annually from their sophomore to senior years, empowering their aspirations in the audio sector.
Hands-On Training and Recognition: Alongside financial support, the Spotify Labs Creator Program promises a week-long immersive training experience. As part of this, 2023 award winners and students Rokiyah Darbo, Taylor Mills, Ashley Rawls, Bailey Johnson, and Tellisa Massey will benefit from insights on crafting an audio newsroom, podcast launching, and content editing, giving them a tangible edge in the industry.

Additionally, renowned podcast hosts Ricky Thompson and Denzel Dion of "We Said What We Said" shared their experience and wisdom, underscoring the paramount importance of authenticity in podcasting.
