Urban One Launches A New Podcast Network
Today, at the start of Black History Month, Urban One Inc. announces the launch of the new Urban One Podcast Network. This groundbreaking effort expands the company's already extensive audio entertainment options for BIPOC audiences, as well as for advertisers who want to connect with the Black community authentically and culturally.
Powered by Black stories, the network is a curated slate of premium content across diverse genres enriched in information, insight, and entertainment. The network launches with more than 10 original shows plus exclusive partnerships with other Black-owned podcasts and networks.
Spearheading the network and its launch is Sierra Reed, Senior Director of Podcast Operations for the Urban One Podcast Network. Reed is an accomplished media veteran with over 14 years of experience as a content creator, published writer, journalist, and senior business strategist whose passion-driven expertise and experience in audio broadcasting make her a perfect fit for the role. Through the launch of her own podcast almost 10 years ago and her own experience for storytelling, Reed understands the opportunity to service the multifaceted community that the network supports.
Speaking of her vision and mission, Reed says, "having the freedom to share and express is a beautiful thing, and what you learn and feel within that conversation and storytelling experience is invaluable. We want people of color to get into podcasting. We want the community to learn, grow, and be entertained in a way that is organic and not programmed." » Read Press Release «
We would also like to congratulate BPA member Walter Gainer II for his work on this project as Digital Content Producer. We are wishing him the best in his role and can’t wait to see the growth and success of this network that supports black content.

This week past week SXM Media released some insights from the upcoming Black Podcasters Listeners Report conducted by Edison Research, SXM Media, and Mindshare.
And there is some good news to share. He are some takeaways from the recent insights.
43% of Black Americans recently surveyed reported having listened to a podcast in the last month - that's 5 points higher than the national average. This shows that podcasts are an increasingly popular listening choice for Black Americans.
Podcasts are an ideal platform to target successful and educated Black audiences of all ages and genders.
Representation matters, especially for Black podcast listeners who want to hear stories and voices that authentically represent them. Hosting Black-centered shows is a great way to engage Black audiences.
Podcast ads on Black hosted shows are effective at influencing Black audiences and moving them through the customer journey. Advertisers/Brands should market via Black podcasts to build trust and move listeners from consideration to purchase.

‘THE QUBE’ LAUNCHES NEW PODCAST SERIES RAISING AWARENESS FOR BLACK HIV/AIDS DAY
In recognition of Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, February 7, ‘The Qube’, a new streaming platform of music and podcasts produced by Black, Brown (BIPOC) and Queer and Trans People of Color (QTPOC) creatives, is releasing a special podcast series titled “Black HIV in the South: How Did We Get Here?,” a four part series that chronicles the history, impact and current state of the HIV/AIDS epidemic within the Black community in the southern United States. Debuting February 7th, the podcast series is the first limited series released by the new platform.
Co-hosted by Anna DeShawn and Duane Cramer the series takes a deep dive into the complicated historical intertwining of how systemic racism, economics and culture within the healthcare system contributed to the nearly 52 percent of new infection rates of Black people living in impoverished communities, particularly in the Bible Belt.
More than forty years after the HIV/AIDS epidemic became widely known, in 2021, there were 38.4 million people living with HIV globally (source: UNAIDS), demonstrating that there is still work to be done in awareness and prevention methods.
As told through in-depth interviews and personal stories of people living with the virus and those affected, the series features experts and activists working to combat the epidemic and provide information and resources for those affected, showing a modern, refreshed approach.
