Whoops, We Forgot Some Items Before Publishing…
We all make mistakes. Today was one of those days for us.
We bring you this “part 2” edition or our “Whoops Edition” to add some news that we forgot to put in today’s BPA Insider.
Our goal is not to barrage your email with a ton of posts, thus why our newsletters can be long at times, but sometimes we have information that we just have to share.
So our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause, and we hope you enjoy this blast as much as you enjoy our others.

Radio Workshop's Podcast Series Triumphs at One World Media Awards
In an inspiring demonstration of the power of storytelling, Radio Workshop’s captivating podcast series, "I Will Not Grow Old Here," has clinched the Best Podcast and Radio Award at this year's One World Media Awards ceremony.
The podcast series, which is composed of three parts, sheds light on the grim realities of youth unemployment in Alexandra township, Johannesburg. Its unique and powerful narrative swiftly broke barriers, challenging stereotypes, and fostering a global connection that led to its distinguished recognition. The One World Media Awards are renowned for honoring remarkable media coverage of the global south - the kind of coverage that sparks dialogue, promotes understanding, and bridges cultural gaps.
The series is the brainchild of 23-year-old Mary-Ann Nobele, who hails from the community where the story was set. It serves as a testament to her dedication and passion to leverage audio storytelling to invite listeners into the lives of her peers, giving them a firsthand glimpse of the challenges they face.
Lesedi Mogoatlhe, the editor of the podcast, proudly acknowledged the power of their African story in reaching global audiences. The team at Radio Workshop harbors hopes that the success of "I Will Not Grow Old Here" will draw more attention to the relentless issue of youth unemployment in South Africa, pushing the narrative beyond borders.
"I Will Not Grow Old Here" is a product of a decade-long youth radio project at the community radio station Alex FM. It stands as a stark reminder of how young voices are leading the conversation about issues that directly impact their lives and communities.
The podcast series' victory would not have been possible without the collaboration and hard work of the entire Radio Workshop team, including Dhashen Moodley, Jo Jackson, Mike Rahfaldt, Rob Rosenthal, and Mary-Ann Nobele. The Open Society Foundation also played a vital role in supporting the production of this groundbreaking story.
As we celebrate this triumph, it's important to remember that this award not only signifies recognition but is also a beacon of hope for the future of podcasting in Africa. It's an affirmation that authentic stories about youth experiences in Africa have a place on the global stage.
Radio Workshop is paving the way for the new generation of African journalists, storytellers, and activists. By training youth across Africa to make radio and podcasts, they are empowering them to tackle issues that resonate with their communities. This award is a testament to the transformative power of their work.
