About Charisse Sims
Charisse A. Sims is an educator, coach, trainer and mother who believes that all children are brilliant, even those who’ve grown into adults. Her educational background in Early Childhood Education, from Santa Monica College, Ashford University, and Behavioral Science from Cal State Dominguez Hills served as a foundation for her 20 years of experience in the classroom, and as founder and director of an early childhood education center. Charisse's expertise working with children, parents and educators was maximized by the entrance of her six children--four girls and boy/girl twins.
She currently operates Hidden Gems Preparatory Academy, serving children in preschool through 8th grade in the greater Los Angeles area. Charisse also supports early childhood school administrators and educators as a trainer and consultant. Beyond the walls of the classroom, she applies her hard-won perspectives and experiences to help others navigate their parenting journey through her Parenting Piece by Peace Coaching and Support program and Parents in the Playhouse podcast/video series.
Charisse’s educational philosophy is based on her belief that each person's brilliance brings with them a unique gift that was given in service to create a better world. This brilliance and unlocking of gifts is achieved through exposure to opportunities, experiences and challenges through play. The ability to understand self and others’ learning strengths and preferences is the propeller towards our brilliance and gifts. This understanding leads to strong communication between families and allows us to maximize the "GO brain" to achieve greatness.
As an early childhood education expert with an engaging and accessible style, Charisse is a highly sought-after speaker and trainer who has been featured on PBS SoCal, OWN Networks Black Love, and the Moms In Color Conference. Charisse is also on the leading side of creating culturally relevant, diverse and inclusive curriculum, offering curriculum themes such as “A is for Activism” and “B is for Black History”. Charisse works with parents and educators of children of color to help create anti-racist and inclusive and equal environments for children to thrive in. When not creating a new, play-filled curriculum unit or leading DIY art projects with her brood, Charisse enjoys photography, poetry and vanilla lattes.
She finds ultimate joy, fulfillment, and personal growth in her ability to inform, inspire, and empower educators and families.
