FriYAY It’s time for Feature Friday!!! ✨
People are craving stories that center and celebrate Black women and puts them in history in a story of power, intelligence and success.
It’s a celebration! 🎉As podcasting continues to diversify and more black people find their voices, there’s an added desire to hear from us, hear our stories, and celebrate Black Women Cause ya know what they say, Black Girls are indeed Magical ✨ And speaking of magical you get all that and more from Yhane Smith and her podcast Harlem Queen a historical fiction that centers and celebrates Black people in US History.
This podcast drama is based on the life and times of Black, woman, "gangster" Madame Stephanie St. Clair during the Harlem Renaissance (the story takes place around 1926-28). Madame St. Clair had a powerful impact on building the Harlem community underground and aboveground. The goal of the podcast is for the listeners to be entertained, educated, empowered and uplifted after hearing this amazing story!
The Queen indeed….beautiful pod art
Yhane shares that the goal of this podcast is to improve the life of her audience. I can appreciate that very much, because I think for the listeners and especially those of color there’s so much value to seeing black people not only have podcasts around historical fiction, but also be the creators behind it. It’s truly admirable!
Yhane started listening to podcasts in 2005 in search for information about writing. Then she started listening to audio dramas for entertainment. She had stories she thought people would enjoy and made them into audio dramas. In search for information she found herself creating her own podcast in 2019 and now she shares information….
Work with a terrific audio designer who will spend quality time on crafting your audio scape, this is audio so don't skimp on your audio scape to create the world for your audience. I hate editing - hire an editor. Get to know and spend time with your audience.
Yes…..audio is key right…really learn the craft and take the time to invest in yourself. And hey, check out Harlem Queen…storytelling at it’s finest. 🎭
Until next time…. I’m Takin the A Train…🎵

Harlem Queen is great!
One of my favorite people and podcasts! Love Yhane. She is always so helpful, knowledgeable, and Talented! She also gave me my first paid opportunity to do voice acting on Harlem Queen, which inspired me to use my voice for our fiction Podcast "Creencias." Thank you Yhane!
