Hip hop hoorayyy hooo heeey hoooo heyyy hooo…it’s Feature Friday ✨
“Life’s full of vast opportunities, why not open your pond a little bit? Growth in perspective only comes to those who aren’t afraid to share themselves.”
Fearlessness…. there’s growth in not being afraid of stepping forward and sharing yourself. What a great concept…because even just by stepping out of your comfort zone, that’s a moment of growth in itself. This dope concept is brought to us by todays feature Melvin “Unkle Lew“ Smith.
He spells it with a “k” as opposed to a “c” for cultural reasons. ✊🏾
Unkle Lew is the host of the podcast Don't be Koi a podcast for BIPOC and adjacent communities to share their life tricks and experiences in hopes to build perspective. It’s a table talk podcast where guests share the tools they have used to navigate some of life's challenging questions. Using interviewing, Don't be Koi explores various life situations with diverse groups of people and through these perspectives we all learn and expand our life's pond. (ah I like what you did there…Koi…like the fish?! instead of coy…I get it 😅🐡)
I really like the vibe of this podcast from the art to the description.
But why the name Uncle Lew? And why start a podcast?
“My middle name is Lewis :). As for why I started Don’t be Koi, in short I believe I have great conversations with amazing people and we all have lessons we can learn from each other to develop and grow internally and externally. So I wanted to create a platform to share stories, resources, and build community in pursuit of our own individual self-development. “
Building community, and sharing resources, that’s what it’s all about. That’s the amazing thing about podcasting and especially for black podcasters. 💪🏾 We have the ability to really reach out and help each other grow. I don’t know about ya’ll but having worked in many industries, the relationships, the conversations, the people and the desire to help amplify each other is so unique to podcasting, you don’t see it like this really anywhere else. ✨
Though Unkle Lew has only been in podcasting for one year he still works hard to provide authentic diverse perspectives that can give us all the right tools to reach our full potential size quicker. Speaking of the right tools, what are some things he has learned along the way.
Marketing, how to frame a podcast script, networking.
Short and sweet and to the point I’m not mad at it at all. Besides I think as we all continue to grow and elevate our pods we all start learning and appreciating the value of great marketing.
So, don’t be coy, and just go check out Don’t be Koi…and look out for one of Unkle Lew’s favorite episodes coming up soon. “Moments of transformation" with guest Aara Shaik, who was very transparent and vulnerable and this one get’s deep!
🚨 Remember 🗣…it’s black business month…so shout out and collab with a black business or even a black business pod. 🙌🏾
