Before you cheers to the freakin’ weekend… it’s time for Feature Friday!!! ✨
I envision a future where Black women have equal access to the resources and opportunities they need to heal, grow, and thrive, and where they are recognized and respected as leaders in the wellness space.
Vision, and healing for black women…that’s Cassandre Dunbar.
Women’s history month wouldn’t be right if I didn’t tell ya’ll about this one! Cassandre stands firm on making sure she creates a space for Black women to feel mentally, physically and emotionally safe while having honest conversations. She accomplishes this with her award winning podcast Be Well Sis a podcast dedicated to equipping Black millennial women with resources to thrive.
Mental health conversations have become something where more people are speaking openly about their journey’s in emotional well being. Ironically that’s how Cassandre got her start in podcasting…by really and truly looking within. As I say again and again you never know where inspiration will come from. 💫
I got into podcasting after my therapist challenged me to do so as an act of self-care. At the time, I was burnt out and on the emotional mend following the traumatic birth of my second son. Even though he was thriving, my nervous system was shot!
Her therapist challenged her to do something that was purely for her for 1 hour a day. And though she had the idea for a podcast for years she never created one. She did what we all often find ourselves doing. She made excuse after excuse until she couldn’t anymore and so Be Well Sis was born. (reminder to us all…no more stalling 💯).
The time that I spent connecting with different women who were equally as passionate about the wellness of Black women helped me to find a part of myself that I had lost to motherhood.
Even with those challenges she’s already been able to accomplish so many things through her hard work and the podcast. And can I just say, this is another show where I fell in love ❤️ with the artwork and the consistency on her website. That branding is on point sis! Certainly something to take note when creating your own podcast and website.
And though things are looking good the journey has not always been easy. And it seems she has learned something a few people have ran into as well….
The one thing I wish I knew [about podcasting is ] how much work is involved! I naively thought that creating a show concept, getting a mic, and interviewing amazing guests would be enough to have a successful show- I was clearly wrong. The amount of work that goes into creating episodes and then marketing the show so that your audience can find you is A LOT (but so worth it).
Great advice….especially this day and age when it seems like everyone’s got a podcast 🎧 ….listennnn I’m here for creativity in this space….but sometimes we gotta say it out loud….this it isn’t as simple as it seems!
I can appreciate Cassandre’s journey and the honesty she has with Be Well Sis and the work she does and apparently I’m not alone…
Psst…she ranked among the TOP 10 of Alternative Health podcasts, and TOP 100 of Self-Improvement podcasts since her March 2020 debut…
Do yo thang! Annnddd…a little birdie told be she’s going to be making more appearances at some of these conferences. So if you see Cassandre, show her some love…
But until then, like sis, you Be Well…
