Exploring the Revolutionary World of WNBA with 'Rebound Revolution' Podcast: Hosted by Dr. Money McEachern
Dive into Intersectional Conversations about Sports, Social Justice, and More on this Unique WNBA-focused Podcast
When you think of basketball in the US - what’s the first thing that comes to mind? If you thought of the WNBA, you’re likely in the minority. And that’s something that Rebound Revolution host, Dr. Money McEachern, wants to change.
Rebound Revolution is a “not so basketball” basketball podcast that dives into the revolutionary on and off the court happenings in the WNBA. No prior basketball knowledge necessary!
The show was created as a partnership between Dr. Money, indie podcast production company editaudio and LGBTQIA+ audio platform The Qube, to help bring more attention to a league that they all love (and wants others to as well).
Dr.Money isn’t necessarily who you’d think of as a “sports fan” on paper, and she’s okay with that. As a licensed couple and relationship therapist by day, and someone who was considered so bad at sports that “she passed gym class in high school by serving as the stats and scoreboard person”, she wants to make more people aware that there is no gatekeeping necessary to engage with “the W”.
If Brittney Griner was your first introduction to the WNBA or the league, Rebound Revolution is the podcast that shows you there is so much more to learn, and appreciate, about how the league shows up for gender, racial, and LGBT justice. Players have been instrumental in standing up for social causes from reproductive rights, through to police brutality and advocating for Black trans lives.
With a league made up entirely of women and gender diverse people who are primarily Black, the WNBA is a unique space that brings visibility for Black queer people, both in its fandom and roster of 144 players. The existence of the league also creates space for many important intersectional conversations on everything from pay equity, to co-parenting, dating, social justice, LGBTQIA+ representation, and much more. The WNBA is living LGBT and Black history.
In each episode, Dr. Money chats with a different person connected to the WNBA - from journalists like Frankie De La Cretaz and AdWeek’s Mollie Cahillane, to former player and Hall of Famer Sue Wicks, and current players like Chicago Sky’s Courtney Williams and Connecticut Sun’s DeWanna Bonner. The show is specifically aimed at those who aren’t WNBA fans (yet), with segments that provide fundamental information on essential basketball plays and lingo, league history, players who deserve their flowers, and more.
The first season comprises 12 episodes, plus bonus content that highlights game recaps, off-court gossip and memorable fashion moments, among other topics.
The first season of Rebound Revolution is out now! Even if you’ve never watched a W game, the show still has something for you. Listen, follow and subscribe wherever you get podcasts.
