Happy Black History Month!
Ah! It’s February and a dedicated time of the year to celebrating plus paying tribute to the accomplishments, contributions, and communities of Black Canadians.
However, in 2024, I can't help but notice a shift in acknowledgment this month. It's silent. The past 2 to 3 years were perhaps the busiest for many Black creators, not to mention podcasters. But what's happening this year? Could it be because some companies just let go of their DEI employees or leaders while downsizing their learning programs, and slashing external DEI group budgets by up to 90% in 2023? Or has the Black Renaissance faded again into the background, much like it did at its peak in the '90s, only to disappear in the 2000s?
I find myself echoing Morpheus's question: “What’s real?” Did you think this momentum would last since George Floyd (may he rest in power), the acknowledgment of BLM in June 2020, and the Black Square companies posted on their social accounts? Hmm!
As you ponder, I've rounded up a bunch of Black Canadian Podcasts for you to enjoy not just during Black History Month but 365 days of the year!
