Happy New Year! Wow, it's 2024, and I hope your first week of January has started on an upswing!
As an avid podcast listener and a pod watcher, I can't help but bring up NFL legend Shannon Sharpe's podcast "Club Shay Shay" with his extra special and unleashed guest, Katt Williams. Katt unpoetically shared so much (was it too much?) that the producers had to break it into two parts in their episode lineup. It was the longest Hollywood dissertations a guest can give.
Watching Shannon's interview made me think, as a podcaster, when do you come in if your guest just has a whole lot to say? There's the timing to consider or the tool to recap what they say and come in with a question right after to steer the conversation in a focused direction. For me, I still find interrupting people hard and it can get awkward.
So, fellow podcast enthusiasts, what are your thoughts and strategies when it comes to navigating the delicate art of interruption in a chat or as a podcaster? How do you maintain a balance between letting your guest speak and keeping the conversation on track? I'd love to know your thoughts.
Meanwhile, here are some podcasts with minimal interruptions for your listening pleasure:
