🎵Tis the season for Feature Friday fa la la la la la la la laaa🎶

Improve…because there’s always room for it. If you’ve ever talked yourself out of a great idea before it even had a chance to breathe, this one should hit you right in the chest . Yes… I see you, because we have to take risks and really take chances and that’s what todays Feature Friday Ermias Hagos, does. He’s host of The Black Experience Podcast. He may call himself a beginner, but after nearly three years, and over 100 episodes, ( Congrats by the way 🎉 because pod fade is real!) and a whole studio setup with lights, cameras, mics, and a live audience. Yeah…that “beginner” title is not really looking like it, now is it?

Ermias created The Black Experience after being one of the few Black students in a school where the population was under 2% Black. Instead of shrinking, he built a platform. A space to highlight the Black community he found on campus and eventually across the Pacific Northwest. The podcast now uplifts Black creatives, sharing their journeys, their work, and the advice they’d give to the next generation coming up behind them. And let’s be real there is a need for voices like this!

A word. Because it’s true…visibility is fuel. And The Black Experience Podcast is doing exactly that. Listeners walk away inspired, with new connections, new ideas, and in many cases, a bold call to action. That’s impact. And Ermias isn’t just creating content he’s building community. His goal is clear: hit 20,000 YouTube subscribers, secure 5 sponsorships, and reach 1,000 Substack followers by 2026. With the way he’s been moving? Very doable. Very.

What’s wild is that none of this was planned. A simple 5-episode mini project turned into friends asking to be on the show…then roommates…then more people…and suddenly he was 100 episodes deep with a full studio audience. That’s the magic of saying “yes” to your gift before you fully understand where it’s taking you. Sometimes the journey is already unfolding you just gotta keep walking.

So now that we learned all that…what are some tips Ermias has for us?

His Tips:

1. Just start — don’t overthink it.

2. Don’t let others or your own inner critic slow you down.

3. Put the content out there.

4. Make small improvements every episode

That spark has now grown into a movement with a big goal which is to empower at least 10,000 newcomers and immigrants over the next three years through community, resources, and real guidance. 🎵Where them fans at?…OOh ohh oh I got my Feature Friday🎶

Storytelling is such a powerful tool that we learn about and enjoy in the world of podcasting. While life may have had other plans for K. Kay Wilkes outside of the entertainment industry, she found herself just where she needed to be, in the podcasting space.

Kay is a Washington, D.C. based podcaster who has a very curious mind. She oftentimes found herself wondering about people, the world, and the “why” behind what we do. She often ponders everything from big existential questions to smaller everyday curiosities, what makes people tick, what drives their choices, and how their life experiences shape who they are.

This inspired the birth Pondering Thoughts Podcast, with the tagline “The podcast for curious minds.” What a great tagline don’t you think?

The light bulb with the brain…what a good touch…very intentional, very thoughtful. I see you Kay. 🧡 The podcast just recently turned 2 this September (CONGRATS 🎉!!) and she is really being intentional in giving her listeners a unique experience.

And…might I add to make them ‘Ponder’ some things in the process. (Ya see what I did there!) The goal of this podcast is to make listeners feel like they’re part of an engaging discussion they can enjoy alone or with others something that an adult and a young adult (or even a kid - depending on the topic) could listen to together and walk away with a new idea, a new question, or a new perspective to talk about.

But two years in…there are some tips and things she has learned along the way. For example, leverage your community and network.

I certainly agree, podcasting is so raw and authentic and people can honestly see through that, it can make or break your fan base. Pod fade is real so creating systems and finding ways to simplify or delegate tasks is essential to sustain the work and stay consistent.

What’s Good?! My good people? Or better yet, What’s Poppin’? If it isn’t obvious yet where I am going with this…check out this week’s feature! We are highlighting the talented Toni Kennedy the creator and executive producer of the award-winning, critically acclaimed children’s podcast What’s Poppin’ Penny?

What’s Poppin’ Penny? follows a curious preschooler who discovers a magical teddy bear tied to her family’s history. With help from her talking cat Penelepaw, Grandma Spicy, and her loving parents, Penny learns to handle big feelings and celebrate everyday adventures. The characters are absolutely lovable if I do say so myself.❣️

It’s so dope to see a podcast geared toward kids come from such a dedicated person like Toni. When someone’s passion is in it, you can really feel the energy come through the pod…and that’s what happens with this show!

But don’t get it twisted, the show has such a diverse following and interest. Trusted adults and their little Brownstone Buddies love the show. What’s Poppin’ Penny? appeals to a remarkably wide range of listeners—and that’s not an exaggeration. Return of the Mack….nah jk…But it is the return of Feature Friday✨

I know….I know…it’s been a minute since the last Feature Friday, 🤦🏾‍♀️ but a quick look at the world will remind you…that life has been lifing. But I am happy to be back now AND … with a super dope feature!

DJ Tricey Trice is a veteran DJ of 10 years and went on to grow her entertainment experience and marketing skills at AT&T, Nuvo Magazine, and Radio One Indianapolis. Trice is now an Executive Producer and owner of Trindi Media Group in Los Angeles, CA.

She started her first podcast back in 2016, and that’s when the spark really hit. With a new passion for storytelling, she knew she wanted to take things further. So in 2021, while the world was filled with uncertainty, Trice had complete confidence in her goals. She packed up, moved to LA to chase her podcast dreams, and has been working in the space full time ever since. 💪🏾

Speaking of “the spark” , to know Trice is to appreciate her “toxic positivity” and relentless support of her L.A. teams especially the LA Sparks! You can hear about that and other sports content on her show The Post Up with DJ Tricey Trice.

Hello….is it Feature Friday you’re looking for?✨

Ohhh another podcast created in a way to help people in their health journey…I’m seeing a theme and I love it.✨ Nia Henry is the host of Diabetes UNplugged With Nia Henry…the podcast that dares to redefine the way we approach diabetes wellness. This is a transformative space where listeners unravel the intricate threads of living with diabetes in a real, raw and truly holistic way. Diabetes is something impacts our community tremendously so to have a space thats honest and solution driven is amazing. Especially in a space like the one Nia creates where it is safe for people to speak about their journey.

Podcasting…is not just a place for talking heads to gather ‘round and talk about the latest trends. It’s a space for uplifting and informing our community and reaching folk that you might not otherwise have access to. This is why more BIPOC people need to be in this space and create valuable content for us, this is what brought Nia to podcasting. She was drawn to this industry because of its unparalleled ability to reach and connect with people on a deep, personal level.

And listen…although Nia has only been in podcasting for a few months, her background in health goes much deeper. That Spring Forward hurt..whew but hey spring into this Feature Friday!✨

Prioritizing self and health that’s what this weeks feature Kristal Holmes strives to do in her podcast Go Hard Chick. After struggling with her own health and wellness, she took charge of her well-being by transforming her approach to meals and putting a spotlight on nutrition, fitness, and stress management. After dealing with her own struggles, she wanted to help educate and empower other women. ✨

I love that, because a lot of times we can neglect ourselves in many ways as we are trying to figure out life and all it’s challenges. Sometimes honestly when it comes to health we don’t know where to even start, so I love that Kristal was working on herself and used that to help others.

Go Hard Chick is essential because it addresses a pressing need for holistic health and wellness support, especially for women facing various challenges in today's fast-paced world.

Kristal originally started a blog about health and wellness in 2013. But as time went on she she wanted to explore podcasting as a continuation of her blog. So in 2020 that’s where she started podcasting.

Yes…in the day and age where everyone is an expert…it is good to really have someone available who is providing that reliable information. And also between the content and this show art…the proof is in the pudding: 💪🏾

On her pod she brings her listeners the 'LaTest' urban talent, news and black owned businesses in Nashville, TN. It’s a fun place to share truth, creativity and entertainment. She also uses her platform not only to amplify those in her community but to support and uplift….

LaTesa has been in podcasting for a little over a year, and really enjoys her LaTest With LaTesa pod as we are sure you will too. One of her favorite episodes she mentioned is when she did a black business segment. In this episode she really wanted to inform her listeners on some pretty dope businesses for black business month. She interviewed a black female fashion designer and did 2 black owned product reviews with her to spice things up ! There were giveaways, and samples, and she really amplified some black owned businesses. Gotta love that, she wasn’t just talking about a business but really using her platform to amplify! Go ahead now LaTesa! 💪🏾

So with all of this community building , we had to ask …what has she learned along the way!

Now that is a nice healthy serving of advice 🌈⭐️…

I have to admit I paused on the ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ line…but I get it, it’s about using the community and it’s strengths to support you where you feel you may come up short. We are not all perfect at everything, so being able to delegate those other tasks, is super smart but also it puts your mind at ease. I love it, there is a lot of strategy here…I’d certainly say try it out. While you’re trying it out take some time to support, and listen to, LaTest With LaTesa. Hey even if you’re not in Nashville there’s still value there.

🎵Twin…where have you been? 🎶 …it’s Feature Friday!✨

Fun, relatable and empowered thats what you get when you listen to Hot Seed Podcast…and hosted by this week’s feature Shawn Hines. Shawn and co hosts Earl and Dave are three friends with career backgrounds but a passion for candid conversation and creating relationships. They took a bond of nearly 15 years of personal friendship and interaction over XBOX Live Chat to the podcast platform where they discuss a litany of topics from gaming/entertainment, sports, the latest news stories, interviewing a slate of different guest, all while providing our unfiltered prospective.

That’s fun, I think if anything if your a consistent reader of this newsletter, you see time and time again how podcasting ideas and it’s inception for a lot of people can come from pretty much anywhere. To go from XBOX to podcasting, I’ve never heard that before but. it makes. a lot of sense. They already had the report and the subject manner so…why not! 💁🏾‍♀️ They found something in common and decided to create it in the most authentic way.

Shawn and his buddies have been at this for about three years now for him podcasting was a way to build through conversations that connects to others who are looking for inspiration, motivation and therapy. He’s right, podcasting is such a great connector. I think that’s the case because it gives people access to a media that reaches the masses in a way we haven’t had such access before. We can create our own messages, our own platforms and collaborate how we choose to.

So if your going to check out the Hot Seed podcast…take his suggestion and start with one of hs favorites: Episode 64 "All Black Everything Vol 2" where they interviewed Dr. Chike Akua a renowned speaker and teacher. He was also the 8th grade language arts teacher for one of their host. The episode gave so much insight into how we can all help form the positive minds of black youth.

So…with over 100 episodes under their belt and a bevy of various topics…what are some things Shawn has learned along the way?

Podcasting. is an art indeed…and we love the importance of really pouring into your audio, after all it’s the best representation of your podcast.

Consistency is key…remember how I say that all the time. lol It’s not just me, see. 😄

So do the work, care and take time. to really create your podcast because it is a work of art. And if The Hot Seed Pod shows us anything, you never know how close your podcast subject matter is to you, heck or even your future co-hosts. Just look around…and make a wise decision.

Black History Month continues on ….but so does Feature Friday!✨

Listen…I’m already locked in…black mental health is such an important topic and indeed having a safe space is too 💅🏾. Oh yes sign me up. So let’s dive right on in to learn about this week’s feature…Jasmine Bishop & Charmaine Beasley.

Together they host Stay Mentally Dope- a podcast on the intersection of Black culture and mental health. Love that! Charmaine & Jasmine, are two licensed therapists obsessed with Black culture, on the podcast they unpack your favorite throwback movies. They decode why Black parents refuse to apologize. They also help you ditch the struggle love cycle. Whew…now talk about breaking through some barriers 💪🏾. And that’s the thought process behind this podcast…they’re actively working to make mental health digestible and accessible by using our cultural anchors (TV, music movies, etc,).

What a unique take, it isn’t the typical approach for therapy and to incorporate parts of the culture that relate to us all is pretty genius. It makes therapy and talking about our deep selves not so scary. Seems this pod really disarms all those anxieties and cuts through to some pretty dope conversations. I’m here for it and how much they enjoy it as well! ✨

Also I have to say that I love that Charmaine & Jasmine are navigating this space together. Kismet, really. They both mentioned to each other that this was something they were interested in and set a time to explore it. Communication, commitment, and collaboration, 3 C’s of podcasting, is what I call it and now they’ve been doing it for two years.

So …as we always ask what did they learn along the way? But…PLOT TWIST I had to ALSO ask about hopes for the future of podcasting:

Yes…as a whole our community can keep building. To be honest the legitimacy is growing. With pods like this the industry will be forced to make a seat at the table for black creators.

Knock Knock…it’s time for your favorite part of Friday… Feature Friday!✨

I think we all can agree with that sentiment…podcasting isn’t just a fad. That’s a lesson that both consumers and creators all come to realize. As podcasting continues to grow, we end up learning about some pretty dope pods and people like this weeks feature Talaya Dendy.

What I can appreciate about Talaya is the work she does to help others and how that feeds her podcast. Talaya is a 12-year Cancer Thriver, Cancer Doula, Independent Patient Advocate, Cancer Health Equity Consultant, Mental Health First Aider, and Podcaster. Her passion is guiding, supporting, and advocating for people diagnosed with cancer. Surviving cancer and helping others has motivated her to host the "Navigating Cancer TOGETHER" podcast.

Upon receiving a cancer diagnosis, the patient typically faces many challenges, including feeling confused, overwhelmed, and alone. All of them are emotionally draining! On Navigating Cancer TOGETHER, Talaya interviews guests from all walks of life who are living with cancer, caring for those with cancer, and those who made it on the other side of cancer. Plus, professionals who offer complementary and integrative care.

What a concise logo…and the yellow puts emphasis on some key words ✨

t’s crazy all the things that can bring us into podcasting. This I have to say is truly inspiring. Though Talaya has only been at this since 2021 to not just have survived it cancer but to create a safe space for others to learn and be heard…there’s power in that. 💪🏾

Yesss…still a whole HUMAN, with feelings goals and aspirations. This is the type of content that needs to exist and especially for black folk, where let’s be honest resources aren’t always readily available for us.

Podcasting is so many things and let Talaya and her story be a reminder of that…because as she shared in the begining this should not be considered a fad. I gotta say, thanks Talaya for doing the real work to help folks…and navigating beyond your own personal experiences. But speaking of experience….what has been learned through all of this…about podcasting.

Yes…and if I may get on my soap box…I have said it in person, in virtual sessions heck even in this newsletter, podcasting is an ever changing landscape. So yes try to stay on top of what’s going on…but also give yourself grace.

We are all trying to figure this out…but hey let’s stick around and see how far we can all go.

Black History Month is here…. and so is Feature Friday!✨

Trying to find visibility in a world that often tries to make underrepresented communities invisible is such a large task. But it’s always admired and appreciated to see folk like Erick Taylor Woodby who is trying to do the work. Cause ya know…we’ve got to be seen…and not just for Black History Month either🤷🏾‍♀️I’m just saying.

Erick is an American digital nomad who has spent most of the last three years between Sweden and the United Kingdom. How cool is that?! In over fifteen years of international travel, he’s come across Black citizens from all over the world.💪🏾

So from that he birthed Our Black Gay Diaspora Podcast a global biweekly platform where Black LGBTQ professionals share about their countries and professions. Erick interviews individuals who inspire and educate others about who they are, highlighting a population often overlooked by mainstream LGBTQ+ and Black media outlets.

I’ve tried to tell ya’ll podcasting is a global thing 🌏, and to use this platform as a means to tell stories from different countries is amazing. In a way, podcasting is something that unites us. ✨

Ok show are with the tagline included…❣️

So beyond having global conversations, and highlighting overlooked communities, there are other things that makes this show unique.

But world traveling and hosting wasn’t all of how Erick got his start. Prior to creating, hosting, and producing Our Black Gay Diaspora Podcast. He co-hosted and produced the Wallflowers in Bloom Podcast, a biweekly podcast where they interviewed self-identified introverts. Guests include an Icelandic sculptor, an American psychiatrist, and a British photographer and filmmaker. I don’t know that I’ve ever heard of a show seeking out introverts…I like the added effort to give them a platform. I’m sure Erick has some stories about the journey of just booking those guest 😅. Also, what a good name, Wallflowers. in Bloom.

Two shows under his belt and having only started in 2020, I’m sure there were plenty of lessons learned along the way.

Yes! Can we sit with that for a second…especially the first tip. Have genuine interest, listen….if YOU’RE not interested in your guest…why would your audience be. Especially for an avid listener of your pod…if you sound bored, oh it will translate so keep that in mind, book with intention and go from there. Now there will be curveballs where you won’t expect a guest to be boring, but remember from interview, edit to upload you have the power to decide what’s up on your pod and platform. Okay, let me get off my soapbox. 😄

Gotta appreciate someone who makes a lane where there isn’t one. That seems to be what Delia does as she makes it her mission is to help other women in career transitions through her company Deliapg.

When you're in a job for a long period of time it's easy to associate your identity with your job role. And when you decide to make a career pivot it can be overwhelming and make you feel out of place. This pivoting is something that brought Delia into podcasting.

So she created Just B You podcast a self-improvement show where her guests either share their self-development story or a tool they have created to help themselves and others. She also interviews coaches about ways a person can improve, communication, making a career move, etc.

Okay show art …It’s the cat in the hat, hat for me ❣️🎩

I’m here for that, someone who uses their platform to help others, but also it seems to help her on her journey as well. I’d never thought about interviewing coaches and in a way holding them accountable to better help themselves and others. Now that’s dope.✊🏾

No one really talks about the gray areas of life, especially in a career, this is why a podcast like Delia’s is important. A lot of times people will say just go do something you love but what about the people who don't know what they love and need to rediscover themselves first? This is why I feel a lot of BIPOC podcasters are needed, we can create spaces that we can all relate to and we can find ways to include those who may need help just figuring things out.

Delia’s doing the work, having started her podcast back in 2021 ….but there were things she wished she knew before he started…

Community is key (remember I’ve said that before 💅🏾) it’s important to find and be a part of a group that speaks to you. There are a lot of communities to be a part of so dip a toe out there and don’t be afraid of trying out different communities, after all we aren’t a monolith.

I gotta admit I was happy to see her pop up on my list of folks because I had the pleasure of connecting with her last year. She’s pretty cool just like the work she’s doing.

First, she’s got `Rootful Media. A independent media production company that focuses on documentary filmmaking centered on the outdoors, the environment, human rights, and social justice issues centering Southern voices.

Then theres Creative Architects by Castos a branded show she hosted and produced for Castos, a podcast hosting company.

Oh but that’s not it, there’s also Honey & Hustle her independent podcast, that promotes the Please Hustle Responsibly community as well their digital and physical products.

Whew 😅…you see what I’m saying…Angela is out here doing all the things.

If you ‘re a regular reader of this newsletter, you know I always like to take a moment to take in the show art. This is straight and to the point, and we see Angela put her face on the show art, I see a lot of people are doing that lately and I’m not mad at it at all. We see ya’ll 💅🏾.

So what’s it all about? Honey & Hustle celebrates the North Carolina entrepreneurial ecosystem featuring storytelling interviews from founders, small business owners, and creators. There also seems to be a video component.

As social media, youtube and other spaces continue to grow we are seeing more visual podcasts and original series so it’s cool to see a company and podcast spearheaded by someone in our community who is really working to make change.

As you’re reading this, feel inspired. Lets all collectively work to accomplish our goals because you never know what may help you discover your passion. Angela came into podcasting by accident. She just started recording interviews with her cameras and then people starting asking if she had a podcast.

And here we are ✨.

So four years later What are some tips she has learned along the way?!

Yes do what feeds your show, not what has the largest perceived audience size. It matters to go with the best types of guest for your show and those are often the shows we have the most fun with. It makes sense to quite simply get guest that make sense, and if they happen to be a good fit AND have a good sized audience well that’s a win win! 💪🏾

So hey go out and like Angela try a few different things.

It can all lead generate back to your podcast.

It’s been a minute…did ya miss me?? Happy New Year!
Are we still saying that this week? It’s time for our 1st 2024 Feature Friday ✨

New Year, New Goals New Features…so yeah we went on a bit of a hiatus…the end of 2023 was a whirlwind 😅 but here we are…we made it to the other side! I’m excited to learn and share some pretty dope people from our community!

I’d bet you have some goals for the New Year…and if one of those involve building wealth…and hey even if it doesn’t you still need to listen to The Money Exchange w/ Patrina Dixon.

Okay I see ya, the show art giving us the sound wave, and the microphone silhouette in the background…now thats pretty unique 💅🏾.

So what’s it all about? The Money Exchange w/ Patrina Dixon is a financial education podcast that features guest and experts on topics ranging from business to personal experience within the financial space! I love that, it seems its creating a space for everyone to have a better understanding, and relationship with money. And in this economy…I think we all need that insight 🤷🏾‍♀️ I’m just sayin.

Also, it seems that Patrina really is passionate about finances and helping people understand them. It’s what brought her into the podcasting space. She currently runs the company It’$ My Money which was inspired by the first book she ever wrote and it represented the mission and vision of the company. So with that passion podcasting seemed to make a lot of sense…

Gotta love that…and I personally can always appreciate when we have black and brown voices speaking in this space and truly trying to help our community…yes do your thing Patrina ✊🏾

There’s such a need for this type of content because there are a lot of people in the world who are looking for a trusted person to provide them with sound financial education to help them better manage their money and to begin to build wealth.

And though Patrina was brought into podcasting because of her want to spread financial literacy, she’s also a fan of podcasts herself. She listened to other podcasters and enjoyed and appreciated the way they delivered the content through audio. Because she’s a speaker and enjoyed sharing- podcasting seemed like a natural next step.

But even in taking that big step in 2019…it wasn’t without its challengesso we had to ask our favorite question…say it with me: What are some tips she learned along the way?!

You didn’t say it with me…did you? 👀 mmmmmhmm

Anyway…

Have FUN! I don’t think anyone’s mentioned that….and I’m here for this! Listen, podcasting is a lot…it’s work, it’s a passion and it can be a lot. But we must not forget to quite simple HAVE FUN! 🎉 Now that’s some great insight…because having fun reminds us why we’re here in the first place. Besides as the old saying goes…’when ya love what you do, you never work a day in your life’.

Yoooo it’s November already…anddd it’s… Feature Friday! ✨

Okay…so you’re probably like is sis doing Feature Friday’s or nah?! I am I promise and just like podcasting consistency is key, so keep reading consistently, and sharing consistently and your girl is happy to keep sharing your stories consistently!

Speaking of consistence, I would be remiss if I didn’t shout out today’s awesome feature. He’s a podcast host of a show that is consistently on point and amazing and that is Adrian Daniel aka DJ Sir Daniel. (okay I’ve probably broke a record now with all the consistent stuff but you get it right 😅)

Now if you’re a regular reader you know DJ Sir Daniel is one half of the wondrous duo that hosts the podcast Queue Points. We featured his co host Jay Ray a while back. Queue Points Podcast drops the needle on Black Music History. It is their mission to amplify the names and voices of artists, music and movements that make Black culture the most sought after, imitated and monetized culture in the world.

You gotta check out Queue points, this show moves with intention and does a great job at being a true voice for our community. Besides you know we love music 🎵 💃🏾, and having a podcast like this is so important.

Gotta love that, in a world that detracts they’re working to uplift and amplify. As we have seen over a lot of the feature’s the beauty of podcasting is being able to create your own narrative, to be able to create your own space, and in a way put out a different perspective and truth in the universe.

This podcast just made sense considering his history, we know Sir Daniel the DJ and vinyl records enthusiast. But digging a little deeper, he shares how after working in commercial radio in Atlanta for 7 years, he left but grew restless and needed a home for his voice. So in 2008 he joined forces with social media personality, Drama Dupree to start Better Days Radio as one of the first Black and Gay podcasts. (Love that, take a moment to applaud that okay 🎉) They delved into social issues and entertainment. If that wasn’t enough amazingness DJ Sir Daniel also produces a live mix show on MixCloud called SHUGA-HONEY ON THE ROCKS dedicated to Black women in Hip-Hop and RnB. So it seems he is surrounded with music and created a few platforms to share that passion.

Now having accomplished so many things DJ Sir Daniel has been in podcasting for about 8 years. But what was learned along the way…

Indeed, unique voices…that’s what Dr. Nina Polyné really strives for as part of the company Wondermind, which is an ecosystem. Yup, you heard that right its an ecosystem. By the way, I love the name it’s a literal feeling, and a play on words. Baggage can mean something different for every person. It's all about losing what's weighing down your growth, and learning how to begin a new habit that is aligned with your values road map. 💯 It’s where healthy habits, mindset adjustments, and busy schedules collide.

California licensed clinical psychologist (PSY 32670) Dr. Polyné for sure can speak to the importance of diversity of thought in spaces where we often don’t see it. She has over a decade of experience, at some of the nation’s most prestigious and advanced hospital settings. She is a published author and expert in sleep health and mind/body wellness, and a public speaker. With a background in molecular and cellular biology, she advocates for the integration of science and mental health. 💪🏾Okay then….I see you 💅🏾

So we know that Dr. Polyné and crew, strive to bring important and inclusive conversations around the mental health space into podcasting. But what makes Baggage Drop unique is that while it works to provide tangible tools to help rewire your mental health for personal impact, there’s a focus on May, Mental Health Awareness Month.

So even with being a part of an ecosystem, there are just some things you learn as you go. While, Dr. Polyné knew podcasting would be fun and educational. It’s an extended weekend but first lets… Feature Friday! ✨

Rae Wynn-Grant brings the unique perspective of stories from the wilderness right to our podcasting ears.

Her podcast Going Wild with Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant is her original series, produced by PBS Nature. It is nature storytelling – true stories of adventures with wildlife and in the wilderness with Rae and other guests of color. So if you’re into wildlife you should for sure check it out.

Though she was invited into the podcasting space to host Going Wild, it made sense because of her background. She’s a wildlife ecologist. she runs a research lab at UC Santa Barbara, and she also hosts the television show Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom. This spring look out for her book, because that’s dropping soon too! Talk about doing some pretty amazing things ✨.

Hi my name is Adell and I write… Feature Friday! ✨

Indeed accessibility that is one of the coolest things about podcasting, having the ability to have a direct line to our community. That’s what today’s feature, Whitney Knox Lee is all about with her podcast Impostrix…now thats a unique name ✨

So what is Impostrix Podcast, it’s combined Imposter and Dominatrix to create a name that would signify power over non-belonging.

That’s pretty dope, and it is really interesting to combine those two things together with a overall goal of creating one’s own place and showing strength. Impostrix validates (smart, talented AF, and often over-qualified) professionals of color who navigate imposter syndrome and racial toxicity in their careers. Through personal anecdotes, historical facts, and scientific data, Civil Rights Attorney and Racial Equity Consultant Whitney Knox Lee and special guests explore how race and racism impact their careers, their personal lives, and their joy.

Those are some things that we all have dealt with I’m sure. Imposter syndrome is something I know a few of us have dealt with personally. It’s a lot of us who are often concerned that we aren’t as amazing as we actually are.

Hey, full transparency, I’ve dealt with this in my own right. So it’s pretty dope to have a show that explores that, we aren’t alone, and gives tips on how we can navigate some pretty challenging spaces. Honestly, it gives the vibes of confidence building and just knowing how fire we all are! 🔥

As the show description shares it’s about pushing through! They share accessible language, tools, tips, and “fake it till you make it” tricks to inspire you to protect your energy, embrace your power, and honor your worth. Yass, I love this!

Get into this show art….it really makes sense 💅🏾

So we’ve got the show details, we know about the goal here of affirming professionals of color who navigate imposter experiences and racial toxicity in their careers. But with only 6 months in the podcasting game, Whitney got into this space in the way that most people do…by listening to podcasts.

Podcast discoverability is most often done via podcasts, but it’s dope how Whitney took it a step further and in a way discovered herself in this podcast space by just listening to podcasts. Gotta love how podcasts inspire us in different ways.

Speaking of discoverability, as you browse through Impostrix…maybe check out Whitney’s favorite episodes. The funnest episodes tend to be with her sista circle. They know each other and lift each other up. So far the most informative and affirming episode she’s done has been with Dr. Negar Fani, a neuropsychologist who studies the impact that racial trauma has on our brains. So fascinating and he gives scientific proof and context for how she feels and reacts in certain situations.
